Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Dairy Cattle Farm Worker to support the management of a commercial dairy operation.
The successful applicant will have practical experience in cattle handling, milking operations, animal health, feeding and herd management.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily dairy-farm activities.
- Assist with milking operations.
- Monitor herd health.
- Monitor cattle behaviour and condition.
- Identify sick or injured cattle.
- Assist with veterinary treatment programs.
- Assist with calving.
- Monitor cows before and after calving.
- Assist with herd breeding programs.
- Monitor reproductive performance.
- Assist with artificial insemination programs.
- Manage feeding routines.
- Monitor cattle nutrition.
- Manage pasture and forage requirements.
- Maintain livestock records.
- Monitor milk-production records.
- Maintain milking facilities.
- Maintain farm hygiene.
- Follow biosecurity procedures.
- Supervise junior farm workers.
- Operate agricultural machinery where appropriately licensed.
- Report machinery faults.
- Maintain workplace safety standards.
- Assist farm management with production planning.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years’ commercial dairy experience.
- Practical cattle-handling skills.
- Knowledge of dairy production.
- Good animal-welfare awareness.
- Ability to work early mornings, weekends and public holidays as required.
- Relevant agricultural qualification preferred.
